Find Cheap Gas With Your Android Smartphone (or iPhone)

Are you looking for cheap gas???  There's an app for that!  With gas prices continuing to climb, it's time to put your smartphone to work finding you the cheapest gas prices in town.

Gas Buddy

Gas Buddy is an application available for download through the Android Market (AppStore for iPhone).  The application allows you to search local gas stations for cheap gas prices.

Let's start at the top...  Gas Buddy uses your Android phone's location to find gas stations close to your current location.  The Android application will sort stations by price, proximity, etc.  You can review individual gas stations for prices on all levels of fuel including diesel.  In addition, you can setup "Favorite" gas stations to allow you to quickly browse for the cheapest gas prices at gas stations you travel past the most.

When browsing "Stations Near Me" you can get additional information about services available at the station like groceries, air, food/restaurant, get directions, and view photos of the gas station.

Gas Buddy

The Gas Buddy application is based on "Sharing It Forward"...  All gas prices you see are provided by users of the application just like you.  It's important to do you part to update gas prices and contribute back to the community.  As a perk to promote pricing updates, you earn points (maximum 750/day) for each gas price that you update.  You can use these points to "purchase" chances in weekly drawings for $250 gas cards.

We've been using this application and have been pleasantly surprised by its accuracy and ease of use.  As a bonus, once you register for an account with the app (to update prices) you'll receive email alerts when gas prices are expected to rise in your area.  With all the price increases recently, they've been spot on!
