Best Free Android Widgets

We've taken our review of the Best Android Widgets and removed the widgets that aren't free.  We've also reviewed some additional widgets to round out our listing of the Best Free Android Widgets!   The following list contains the best free android widgets I've used on the Motorola Droid and the Motorola Droid 2, a brief description of the widget, and my *rating.  This listing is up-to-date as of post date noted above.  This listing will change as more widgets become available.  It is possible that some of these widgets have paid version.  Version reviewed as noted:
  • Battery Life [Free] - This is a free battery widget that shows percent battery life remaining.  This widget allows for basic color customization and allows a RED/YELLOW/GREEN level to be defined by the user.  The widget can also use some of the phone's additional sensors to show battery temperature and/or ambient temperature.  (10/10)
  • Android Agenda Widget [Free] - A free agenda widget that can pull from your corporate calendar.  This widget allows for a ton of customization to the look and feel of the widget display.  I use this widget (in 4x1 format) underneath a 4x3 format calendar.  This is one of the BEST available (free or paid) widgets available in the market today.   (10/10)
  • MotoTorch LED [Free] - This free android widget allows you to turn the dual-LED flash on the Motorola Droid on and off on demand.  This makes for a decent flashlight and is much brighter than lighting the way with the main screen.  (9/10)
  • News and Weather (formerly known as Genie Google News and Weather) [Free] - A slick news widget that also provides weather information available stock on Android version 2.1 and higher devices.  Open up the options and select the news topics you'd like to receive feeds on.    (9/10)

  • SportsTap [Free] - Use this free Android widget to keep up to date on all your favoriate sports teams.  Amazing how many teams they have!  Only thing missing here is the ability to change the widget size.  (9/10)
  • Stock Facebook Widget [Free] - So much potential in this widget...  It just seems like an initial implementation which hasn't seen any upgrades in months.  It does the job and allows you to interface with Facebook, but there could be vast improvements to the look and feel of this widget.  (8/10)
  • Stock Picture Frame [Free] - Simple picture frame widget...  Would really benefit from a slideshow option and the ability to change the frame color.  (7/10)
  • Analytics Widget [Free] - Nicely laid out free analytics widget.  Provides you with page counts and visitor counts from the Google Analytics API.  I've had some problems with this widget having force closes with Home++ but it's worth a shot if you'd like to keep tabs on your Analytics account.  (7/10)

*rating - based on my expectation for the app to work as intended on my Android v2.1 Motorola Droid and be moderately or full-featured.
