Android Wallpaper Help
The box has a fixed ratio... You won't be able to expand it really wide in one direction without expanding in the other directions. You can help correct this issue by adjusting the dimensions of your original image to more closely match the dimensions required for the Android wallpaper.
Problem with the cropping
Is there anyway for the Droid to not box me in? I have a picture that I want top to bottom but it only gives me a square box and when I select set as wallpaper it is basically and "eyeball" (my childs face). I want it to use the whole picture as is and it wants me to frame to a square and will only expand so far not the entire screen. Any help???
Using photos for new Droid wallpaper
It sounds like the image you are trying to use isn't wide enough... If I had to guess, it sounds like your using a portrait orientation image. The image size that you would want would require you to expand beyond the edge of your photo.
Given the Droid wallpaper resolution, you may want to try selecting out a 480 pixel wide by 854 pixel high image and padding it on either side with black bars or other suitable equivalent. This would allow at least your home screen to display the image properly.
To do this you could use application as simple as Microsoft Paint (available on all Windows machines) or use another image processing application.
Once you have the bars on either side of the image, you should now be able to select the "larger" image as desired...
Easily done with Irfanview
I couldn't find a way to do this in Windows 7 Paint. But with Irfanview the "Change Canvas Size" works perfectly. My phone has a 480x800 screen size. A 480x800 wallpaper won't display properly as is. What I needed to do is resize the picture to 800x800 by changing the canvas size. What I did was add a 160 pixel border to the left side and a 160 pixel border to the right side of the picture. Leave the top and bottom border at 0. The square box in Set as Wallpaper will now capture the whole picture.
